Coca-Cola Profile & Stats
Whether it be emblazoned across our screens, sold in our local restaurants or chilling in our fridges, Coca-Cola’s cursive insignia has pervaded all areas of our lives. Since pharmacist John Stith Pemberton invented the company’s flagship drink as a medicine in 1886, Coca-Cola’s reach has extended to over 200 countries. Currently offering more than 500 brands, the famous US beverage retailer and manufacturer employs almost 140,000 worldwide.
Formulated at the Eagle Drug and Chemical Company in Columbus, Georgia, Pemberton claimed his recipe cured many diseases including morphine addiction, dyspepsia, neurasthenia, headache and impotence. Asa Griggs Candler purchased exclusive rights to Pemberton’s formula and incorporated The Coca-Cola Company in 1892. It was his vision and marketing tactics that propelled Coke to its global dominance of the soft-drink market, and by the drink’s 50th anniversary it had reached the status of national icon in the US. Coca-Cola has been prominently featured in innumerable films and TV shows; such is its influence on popular culture, the Beatles’ ‘Come Together’ includes the line ‘He shoot Coca-Cola...’
There’s more to Coca-Cola than Coca-Cola. The company’s extensive product range includes other well-know soft-drinks, such as Fanta and Dr Pepper, as well as a range of juices, squashes and energy drinks.
