  • As a trainee, my salary is in line with other City law firms, (and I don't work the same hours), and I don't expect a bonus, so I can't complain. However, I feel that the disparity with US law firms means that we may miss out on high quality candidates and on qualification, I would certainly consider a move if I was working long hours.

  • Not remunerated quite as well as Magic Circle.

  • We get standard City firm trainee salaries, but the benefits system doesn't seem to be as generous as at other comparable firms. It would also be great if the office had a few more showers as this would encourage more trainees to cycle or run to work. The NQ salary also seems to be a little low.

    Helpful?
  • Comparable to peers.

  • Trainee salary seems broadly in line with the competition, but I understand that at associate level it falls behind competitors.

    Helpful?
  • Trainees are not given bonuses.

  • Disappointed not to receive a bonus this year despite receiving one last year.

  • Sits at top end of trainee pay in UK - difficult to complain.

  • The firm seems reluctant to give bonuses even in good years, but they have worked hard recently to overhaul the previous system which was based solely on chargeable hours.

  • Whilst it seems a lot before starting, with tax, student loan (and a loan for travelling from the firm for being a March-starter), it soon gets swallowed up.

    Helpful?
  • Trainee salaries are average for the City, but once you've qualified the associates seem a little more dissatisfied when they consider what similar firms pay.

  • Should be a bonus scheme for trainees – lack of this is weak.

    Helpful?
  • It compares favourably to other firms, and is a ridiculous amount of money for a 24 year old to earn!

  • Industry standard.

  • Pretty good. Of course one always wants more... But compared to the average at other similar firms, not bad at all.

    Helpful?
  • I cannot complain. It is reviewed regularly in line with industry compensation, and remains competitive.

  • The NQ’s who are six months ahead of us are on £65,000 – our salary was reduced due to the economic climate.

    Helpful?
  • I am hoping it will go back to £64,000 as it was before the credit crunch.

  • Pay is good. No grumbles there.
