As a trainee, my salary is in line with other City law firms, (and I don't work the same hours), and I don't expect a bonus, so I can't complain. However, I feel that the disparity with US law firms means that we may miss out on high quality candidates and on qualification, I would certainly consider a move if I was working long hours.
Second year traineeHelpful? Not remunerated quite as well as Magic Circle.
Second year traineeHelpful? We get standard City firm trainee salaries, but the benefits system doesn't seem to be as generous as at other comparable firms. It would also be great if the office had a few more showers as this would encourage more trainees to cycle or run to work. The NQ salary also seems to be a little low.
First year traineeHelpful?Comparable to peers.
First year traineeHelpful?Trainee salary seems broadly in line with the competition, but I understand that at associate level it falls behind competitors.
First year traineeHelpful?Trainees are not given bonuses.
First year traineeHelpful?Disappointed not to receive a bonus this year despite receiving one last year.
Second year traineeHelpful?Sits at top end of trainee pay in UK - difficult to complain.
Second year traineeHelpful? The firm seems reluctant to give bonuses even in good years, but they have worked hard recently to overhaul the previous system which was based solely on chargeable hours.

Whilst it seems a lot before starting, with tax, student loan (and a loan for travelling from the firm for being a March-starter), it soon gets swallowed up.
First year traineeHelpful?Trainee salaries are average for the City, but once you've qualified the associates seem a little more dissatisfied when they consider what similar firms pay.
Second year traineeHelpful?Should be a bonus scheme for trainees – lack of this is weak.
First year traineeHelpful? It compares favourably to other firms, and is a ridiculous amount of money for a 24 year old to earn!
First year traineeHelpful?Industry standard.
First year traineeHelpful?Pretty good. Of course one always wants more... But compared to the average at other similar firms, not bad at all.
Second year traineeHelpful?I cannot complain. It is reviewed regularly in line with industry compensation, and remains competitive.

The NQ’s who are six months ahead of us are on £65,000 – our salary was reduced due to the economic climate.
Junior solicitorHelpful?I am hoping it will go back to £64,000 as it was before the credit crunch.
Newly qualified solicitor, PropertyHelpful?Pay is good. No grumbles there.
